Family Friendly Crete holidays - Crete Hotels & Apartments only - Holidays for Larger family's |
The island of Crete is equipped with more tourist facilities than any other Greek island, which is fair enough because it is the largest. The reason why thousands of foreigners visit Crete each year, is not so much for the traditional Greek island experience, as for investigating the remains of the archaic Minoan culture that flourished here thousands of years before Christ but for the great beaches and sunshine hours the island offers. Some parts of the island have been overpowered by tourist resorts and massive hotels, but fortunately Crete does still allow for exploring endless beaches, numerous villages, remote mountains and some natural curiosities like caves and gorges for those who take pains to avoid the 'madding crowds'. Crete has two main airports, Chania and Heraklion but the latter has more flights form the UK and services the resorts on the north of the island. Please note: When using the search box below Heraklion is the main airport with most flights from the UK and Chania has less and serves fewer resorts.

Things to see and do in Crete - for families |
Limnoupolis Water Park: Limnoupolis is located on a beautiful, emerald area 8 km from the city of Chania near the community of Varipetro. In Limnoupolis, all brand new games that have been installed and operating are similar to those in Disneyland. Limnoupolis is operating from May to October. Near the highest end of "Limnoupolis" is where the most amazing and fascinating games begin and end. The "crazy river" 100m long and the multiple descending slide Multipista with 5 parallel roots each one of them 60m long offer pure, absolute pleasure to visitors. For the brave ones and those seeking for intense emotions, right aside there are a couple of roots: the Freefall 55m long and the famous "black hole" 80m long. For the milder ones, there are the panoramic giant slides 130m long. In one of the highest parts of Limnoupolis, locate also the beginning of the remarkable water slides called Triple Twist (3 conjunctive, closed, transparent water slides each one of them is 80m long.) The very first view will be the one of the big pool of 1.500 m2, that has an excellently designed pool bar, jacuzzi and an artificial small island with wooden toys, accessible only via a hanging rope-made bridge. Right next is the kids' pool for the younger fellows. Truly, one of the outstanding
parts of "Limnoupolis" is the artificial river or "lazy river" which is 260m long and 3-3,5m wide. A special presence decorated with natural stones, caves and waterfalls, offering endless joyful and relaxing time is a vivid challenge for all ages.

Star Beach Water Park: The Star Beach Water Park in Hersonissos is different from the waterpark above as you will find less man-made attractions and more traditional water activities. There are also slides which flow into man-made pools as well as a lazy river, which runs the inside perimeter of the park. There are also a variety of water sports on offer including jet-skiing, scuba diving, waterskiing and for those just wanting thrills without any effort can ride the banana boat or the tubes that are pulled at high-speed behind motorboats. There is also a childrens area with its own mini slides, baby pool, water mushroom, kinder garden and adventure playground. If you want to stay next to the action then check out the Star Beach Village Hotel & Waterpark here.

Day Ferry to Santorini: A daily ferry leaves Hersonissos for the Greek island of Santorini. The island is effectively a volcanic crater and the towns and villages cling desperately to the top of the caldera, hundreds of feet above the sea. Please click here to read more about this adventure. |
Pirate ship tours & Dolphin Tours: From the harbour in Rethymno you can enjoy more boat trips. The Pirate ship takes you to either Marathi or Bali onboard the Barbarossa or Captain Hook and the Pirates keep everyone entertained. The Dolphin tours are more conventional and leave for either a 2 or 3 hours trip with the longer trip including lunch. |
