Portugal is made up of four tourist areas with the Algarve and Lisbon on the mainland and the islands of Madeira & Cape Verde being the furthest south. The Algarve stretches along the southern coast of Portugal and is a beautiful area in which to holiday. The Algarve combines the historic and traditional Portugal with friendly up-to-date resorts to cater for the modern-day holidaymakers that visit each year. The beaches this area are some of the best in Europe, many are Blue Flag beaches ensuring they are clean, safe and ideal for playing and relaxing on. Lisboa is the capital of Portugal and lies on the north bank of the Tagus Estuary, on the European Atlantic coast. It is the westernmost city in continental Europe. Lisboa offers a wide variety of options to the visitor, including beaches, countryside, mountains and areas of historical interest only a few kilometres away from the city centre. The Costa do Estoril is the main tourist area and is waiting for you to discover it. Romantic, cosmopolitan, full of entertainment and with a unique character, it is where Lisbon meets the sea. Madeira is small, just 13 miles wide and 35 miles long, and has no beaches, but it does have an Eden-like beauty with its rich volcanic soil having turned it into a botanical wonderland and agricultural treasure house. The island has been termed a 'floating garden'. Madeira is a walkers paradise with its mountains, picture-postcard villages, magnificent churches and breathtaking waterfalls all waiting to be discovered. Cape Verde offers the traveller some spectacular
mountain scenery and beautiful deserted beaches. The year-round warm climate offers tourist an alternative to the Canary Isles but as Cape Verde is further south you can expect to pay a little more for your flight.
