Rhodes Family Holidays with Free Child Places

Typical beach on RhodesIn days of old when knights were bold they found the island of Rhodes, close to the Turkish shore at the merging of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas, and set it up as a fortress to protect the Christian west from the invasion of the infidels from the east. Today the island, the main one of the 12 making up the Dodecanese group, is still subject to invasion, but now the intruders are tourists, who come to revel in what is reputedly the sunniest Greek island, and to have fun in the medieval city the knights left behind. The town of Rhodes, on the northern point of the island, has preserved its picturesque walled old city as a playground for visitors. The rest of the relatively large island offers miles of beaches, interesting archaeological sites and natural beauty spots. The best beaches are on the east coast, between Faliraki and Lindos. Lindos is renowned as a particularly picturesque town that has been designated a protected historic settlement. Faliraki on the other hand is renowned for its nightlife with very little being protected.

Things to do in Rhodes

The wave pool at the rhodes Water ParkWater Park - Faliraki: Located just outside of Faliraki the Water Park is one of the biggest in Europe and provides a fun day out for all the family. The usual "thrill-seeker" rides are on offer including Free Fall, Turbo Slide and Twister and for those looking for a more sedate form of fun can relax in the Lazy River or the Wave Pool. The Water Park provides a free bus service from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town. The Water Park offers a wide selection and variety of food and beverages. The 2007 entry fees were Toddlers (1-3) no charge, children (3-12) is €15 and adults €20. The park open s at 9-30 am during the season starting on 5 May 2008.

Go-Karting. If Karting is for you then head for Lardos for a turbo-charged day out. The track offers high-speed karts for adults and older children and special karts for the younger children. The track has a great lounge area for spectators and offers the usual snacks and drinks. A great day out once you've got bored of lying on the beach.

Boat trips to Turkey are available every day from the harbour in Rhodes Town and it only takes around 30-minutes to make the crossing. The ferry arrives at Marmaris and the best day to go is on a Thursday as the big market is a must place to visit if you're after bargains to take home. Every fake designer label is catered for from Burberry, Gucci, Adidas and Nike. Make sure you barter with the stallholders as 50% discounts can be easily achieved due to their weak currency. If the markets not for you then try a few hours at the Ice Skating rink or just enjoy the town and its fine beach. Don't forget to take your passport with you.
