Sharm el Sheikh Holidays - Travel Guide

Kids choice - Family Friendly Sharm el Sheikh holidays - Sharm el Sheikh Hotels & Apartments only

Typical family friendly beach in Sharm el SheikhSharm el Sheikh is a world class resort on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. It lies between the Red Sea and Mount Sinai. Sharm El Sheikh is holiday Mecca with high quality big name hotels and restaurants from around the world. It has arguably the best diving and snorkeling in the world. Holidaymakers can enjoy aquatic sports, the sun, and the breathtaking desert landscape. A day trip to Mount Sinai is a must with a visit to St. Catherine's monastery famous for the alleged burning of  St. Catherine where it is said that the Catherine wheel firework was named after her. Sharm el Sheikh is an all year resort with daytime temperatures in the mid 20's in winter and reaching a scorching 40 degrees in the summer. Please take plenty of high factor sun block with you - especially for the children, as you can't always believe that it "does what it says on the tin" (bottle) when buying abroad.

Things to do in Sharm el Sheikh

Mount Sinai & St Catherine’s Monastery. A day or overnight trip where you can climb to the summit of Mount Sinai to watch the spectacular sunrise, followed by a trip to the Monastery. St Catherine’s Monastery dates back to AD337 after the Byzantine Empress Helena ordered it built around the Burning Bush. Local hotels can arrange the excursion for you.

Camel ride and Star watching in the Desert. As with the boats there are several camel (or should I say dromedary, as they only have one hump) trips on offer. Some take you in the evening for dinner under the stars around a camp fire and others take you during the day to a Bedouin camp and offer you mint tea and freshly baked bread.

Glass Bottom Boat Trips: There are loads of boat trips on offer throughout all of the resorts and they can last between 1 to 3 hours. This is a great way to see the many species of fish that live in the coral just off the shore. Prices vary so check them out before booking.

Dolphin Show: A daily show is held at 3.pm and last for about an hour. Tickets are readily available at most hotels and includes the return coach fare. The dolphins perform there usual tricks but it's up to you to decide if you think that performing animals should be held in captivity or not.

Aqua Park City Located on the cliff of Ras Om El Seid, close to Alf Laila Wa Laila Entertainment Centre, Aqua Park City spreads out over 133905 m², and consists of an Aqua Park, two hotel buildings (the Beach Albatros Sharm & the Albatros Aqua Blu with 260 rooms, and a 450 m long promenade with cafés, restaurants, bazaars, a supermarket and a bakery. Cleopark - The Pharoanic Water Park. Hours of fantasy & adventure are waiting for you at Cleopark, the first themed water park to ever open in the beautiful
city of Sharm El Sheikh. Located at Naama bay, Cleopark with its new generation rides is the perfect place for thrill seekers and water enthusiasts. Water temperature is ensured to be warm all year around. There is also the
Aqua Bast at the Park Inn Hotel, Nabq, Sharm El Sheikh

Scuba Diving & Snorkeling: There are many opportunities for both activities BUT they should only ever be done by experienced swimmers and divers. Several "chance to learn courses" are available in the resort but this can take up a lot of your holiday time and you would do better to learn in the UK before you go. Details can be found here.
